Elizabeth K B Bell Painting, Drawing, Sculpture
223
NYC and Northeast Harbor, Maine
-----When I have finished a piece, there are two ways for me to know that this particular portrait has been a success. The first, is that I must be completely enamored with my subject. I am never finished with a portrait until that happens. if one has spent enough time focusing on someone’s movements, features, eccentricities, subtleties, etc, it is impossible not to be taken with them, in love, by the end. If I am not, I have not seen enough, and must forage ahead! Number two, all comes from the viewer, and lends to an even greater satisfaction. A viewer looks at a portrait of a woman: for a moment she looks as though she’s trying not to smile and going to burst out laughing. Sometimes she looks somber, and other times thoughtful. Pensive, caring; human emotion. Different from each perspective, and ever changing, just as we are. if my work is lacking in this effect, I have not successfully translated my subject into the surface. -----Elizabeth was born in Washington D.C. in 1982, and grew up in Northeast Harbor, Maine. A small village on the beautiful Mount Desert Island. She attended St. Lawrence University in upstate New York for one year, followed by 5 years of rigorous classical arts study in Florence, Italy. Currently she resides in New York City, and is persuing a career in portraiture. -----Wingspread Gallery Northeast Harbor, ME worked summers 2002-2007; Angel Academy of Art Florence, Italy 2001-2003; Charles H. Cecil Studios Florence, Italy 2003-2004; Rebecca Harp Atelier (previously of Charles Cecil) Florence, Italy 2004-2006; Grand Central Academy New York, NY present.

Our Mission

It is our commitment to create an environment where professional artists can thrive in their work and their career in the arts, and to establish a place where gallerists, curators, collectors, writers, designers and architects, will find high-quality, fresh and progressive ideas in art. We achieve this by carefully selecting our artists, encouraging their input and supporting their interaction to ensure a better experience while at Juvenal Reis Studios. We continuously create and implement new projects to interact with the greater community of Long Island City through artist talks, workshops, Open Studios, group & solo shows, internships and visiting artist programs.
